Iraq stop Internet access in the country because of exam malpractice
Surprising isn't it? Well, the Iraqi government has shut down internet access in a bid to discourage examination malpractice among students taking exams this week.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time the country is shutting down internet access as they periodically do it for political, security and examination purposes.
According to data from DYN Research , which is an organization that tracks web outages all over the world. The company's report on their data indicates that internet access was slightly entirely blocked for complete three hours on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday morning this week, between 5AM and 8AM local time.
DYN reported...
"There was certainly a lot of skepticism about this explanation last summer, but the outages did coincide with exams and nothing emerged to dispute the explanation," Doug Madory, director of internet analysis at DYN, tells Vocativ.
It is understood that the Iraqi government periodically block internet and even social media sites in attempt to fight insecurity and other purposes. Apart from Iraq, other nations like Uzbekistan, forced a nationwide block in 2014, also in Indian state of Gujarat, blocked mobile networks for complete four hours this year to thwart cheating on a national test for accountants examination.
My question is this, do you think this can happen in a country like Nigeria? Can you stay for four hours without Internet access? This means no faecbook, no whatsapp, no browsing, no YouTube etc

Do you think this can help reduce examination malpractice in Nigeria if the government should follow suit?

Airtel subscribers can now use two lines on one sim
Airtel Nigeria has said the introduction of Smart Number service, an innovation that allows Nigerian subscribers to use an additional line on their already in use Airtel SIM card, yet maintaining a single mobile phone is unique.
The new package is designed to empower owners of small businesses, entrepreneurs, top executives and professionals who wish to improve productivity as well as separate their professional/social and personal mobile lines while maintaining the use of a single phone and SIM card.
The Smart Number is a virtual number mapped to customer’s primary mobile line so that both lines can be used on a single phone. With this service, customer can define and determine the period when the Smart number is made active and reachable in order to make or receive calls and send or receive SMS.
Commenting on the new package, Enterprise Director, Airtel Nigeria, Tawa Bolarin, said the telco is intensely interested in defining new path and innovative ways of empowering and improving the productivity of professionals, top executives and business owners.
“The Smart Number service is intended to make life better, simpler and more enjoyable for business professionals. It is an innovative way of boosting productivity and driving business performance. Airtel will continue to pioneer new initiatives that will empower entrepreneurs and business professionals,” she said.
Apart from the user-controlled option, other features of the Smart Number include voice mail, call transfer, and value-added services such as conference call, group SMS, etc. Also, Airtel customers using Smart Number can conveniently maintain privacy and security by screening unwanted calls.
The Airtel Smart Number, which comes in two different packages – Basic and Plus – is available on monthly subscription for both pre-paid and post-paid customers on the network.
To subscribe for the package, customers can send ‘SUB’ as text to 619 and reply with either 1 or 2 to choose either the ‘Basic’ or ‘Plus’ package. Customers can also call the IVR on 618 and listens to the menu option to subscribe and manage the service.
The Smart Number can call/send text to all networks except international calls/text. To make calls or send through the Smart number, the subscriber is required to dial/text 66 before dialling the recipient’s number. Inbound call on the Smart Number is identifiable as 66 prefix appears before the eleven digits of the caller’s number.
The Smart Number, however, cannot be directly recharged with airtime so the airtime is drawn from the customer’s primary line.
According to Airtel, customers will also need to register the Smart number to ensure full KYC compliance.

Are you ready to welcome playstation2 on your Android?
The new business called ForwardWorks Corporation will begin operation on April 1, Sony said in a release on Thursday 24/03/2016.
"ForwardWorks will leverage the intellectual property of the numerous PlayStation dedicated software titles and its gaming characters as well as the knowledge and know-how of gaming development expertise which was acquired over the years with PlayStation business to provide gaming application optimized for smart devices including smartphones to users in Japan and Asia," the statement said.
Sony will be releasing "fully-fledged" game titles but did not give any timeline. The move is part of a push by Sony to attract more users across different platforms into its ecosystem, and therefore, sell them more software and services.
Mobile is seen as a key part of Nintendo's strategy and has been a big focus for the company over the past year. Nintendo struck a partnership with mobile firm DeNA last year and said together, they plan to launch five smartphone games before 2017.
Smartphone games have done well at attracting so-called "casual gamers" who may not necessarily be into console gaming. The move by both Sony and Nintendo is an attempt to capture these users.
Sony has been putting a big emphasis on its gaming division as other areas such as its smartphone unit slow. The PlayStation is also seen is a key area of growth for Sony. It has launched PlayStation VR – it's virtual reality headset which is currently on pre-order. It also recently expanded its "Remote Play" feature to be compatible with Windows PC and Apple Mac as it looks to tap a wider audience.
On top of this, Sony offers a number of peripheral services around the PlayStation, including its membership service that allows people to play online called PlayStation Plus. Sony has also announced that Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) will change its name to Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), effective from April 1.

NTEL to storm Nigeria soon with 4G,threaten MTN, GLO, and others
Ntel is here to change the game for our network providers in Nigeria. With the array of amazing stuffs they've scheduled for Nigerians, we can't help but wonder what Mtn, Airtel and the rest of them will do when Ntel goes into full operation as a mobile network provider in Nigeria. Ntel will storm Nigeria with 0804 and a long list of other things. I'll show you what i mean below.
Ntel now in Nigeria, then what?
Ntel's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Kamar Abass, while announcing the rollout plan in Lagos yesterday, said ntel would begin the first phase rollout with the commercial sales of its 0804 mobile line on April 8 in Lagos and Abuja.
He said although the company acquired some base transceiver stations (BTS) from the old NITEL, it also entered partnership agreement with IHS and Helios Towehrs, builders of BTS and other telecoms infrastructure, to roll out 600 base stations for the commercial rollout in Lagos and Abuja, with plans to extend the rollout plan to Port Harcourt with additional 200 BTS, also known as base stations.
According to Abass, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the telecommunications industry regulator, has approved all licence authorisations necessary for ntel to launch its Voice over LTE (VoLTE) network using next generation telecommunications infrastructure for its first phase rollout in April.
He said ntel had deployed 200 kilometres of metro fibre optic transmission cables in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, for seamless network connectivity during the rollout.
The CEO of ntel also added that ntel had deployed LTE Advanced, the latest 4G technology with multi-antennae sites.
Ntel bands in Nigeria launch date
“We are rolling out physical sites in three cities on our 900MHz and 1800MHz bands to launch Voice over LTE come April 8, 2016. We have signed agreements with trade partners and fulfilled all licence authorisations and payments and we are up-to-date and there are no impediments to our launch,” he said.
Abass said Natcoms Investments Limited, the parent company of ntel has projected over $1 billion investments over the next four years, for its rollout plan, which he said, would be in phases.
To ensure smooth take off of its mobile network rollout plan, ntel has completed the construction of Tier III Datacentre as well as reactivation of SAT-3 submarine international fibre optic cable.
What Ntel paid to buy Nitel
Natcoms had last year paid $252.52 million to acquire the assets of the defunct first national operator (NITEL), to begin commercial operation on its mobile network. Noting that despite the growth of the telecoms sector in Nigeria which has seen voice subscriptions rise from less than 60,000 in 2001 to over 147 million as at 2015, he expressed fears that broadband usage has only grown by 20 per cent. He said NATCOM has come to fill the gap bringing Nigerians unfettered access to full mobile broadband both on voice and data services.
What Airtel thinks of their Future in Nigeria as a contender for Dominance in the network niche
FROM what they said, they seem to have much faith in their project here in Nigeria and trusts it'll deliver.
“Over the next four and half years, the total number of mobile broadband customers alone will be greater than all of the customers that have come into the market on mobile since its inception. In other words, we are at a point where a major transformation is in the making. You will see 168 million mobile broadband customers coming into existence between now and the end of 2019, which is more than all the mobile customers in both narrow and broadband that we have seen in the last 15 years.”
“That sounds like an enormous transformation. When it comes to the supply of broadband services, we are unique because we have more spectrum which can deliver more output than any network available today and potentially any network in the future. The spectrum we have has unique features which can not be compared with any other spectrum band,” Abass said.
What do you think of them?
Google to disconnect Google wallets

Google made the announcement that it will stop supporting physical Google Wallet cards on Thursday, June 30th but if you have funds inside your wallet, you can send to others and if you don't wish to send to others, you can just keep it there and cash out any time you wish too.
Its believed that google is providing a more and advanced method to replace the physical wallet card.
Are you using Google wallet currently? What is your view on this development?
