How to Get GTBank Dollar Master Card in Nigeria, Charges & Limitations

I looked at my Naira Master Card, and I began to imagine how use-less internationally it is right now because every attempt to make international transaction with it proves abortive. According to my bank Dynamic Currency Conversion that allows you to pay in Naira, has been temporarily restricted on all  cards.

Meaning the only thing you can use Naira Master Card for right now is to cash out from Nigeria ATM stand and shop in Nigeria. The card makes no sense to me anymore. This prompted me to take a step further getting a Dollar Master Card

GTB Dollar Master Card makes a lot of sense; it is what I now use for my international transactions, linked to my PayPal account without any currency restriction. If you do online business, genuine blogger or freelancer, you simply need this card.

Benefits of Getting a Dollar Master Card
>>Global Acceptance, it is accepted globally as means of payments of anything
>>It can be used to make multiple payments across POS terminals, ATMs etc
>>It is easy to use and access your current balance.

How to Get GTB Dollar Master Card?
Getting the card is as easy as ABC so long you have a DOM account with GTBank. If you don’t have a DOM account, see how you can open one for yourself here.

>>If you already have a DOM account, go to the nearest GTBank closest to you and pick the Dollar Master Card application form.
>> Ensure you have a minimum balance of $50 in your DOM account.
For Non Account Holders, please refer to the link above to see how you can open a DOM account for yourself.

My Dollar Master Card was ready for pick up after 8 working days, you’ll be notified once its ready either via email or sms, in my case I got an email to come and pick it up.

How to Activate GTB Dollar Master Card?
The moment you pick up your card, your pin will be given to you but do not change the pin YET. You’ll be required to call GTConnect on this number 1800 right inside the bank and you’ll be asked some sensitive questions like the below;

>>Date of Birth, Account Number, your last transaction, Mothers maiden name and some other sensitive questions to be sure you are the owner of the said account.

The Rep will tell you to wait for 15minute to change your pin. After 15min change your pin and after which you can start using your card anywhere in the world from Nigeria without any restriction.

How to Open a Domiciliary (Foreign) Account With GTBank, Zenith Bank & Firstbank in Nigeria

Now that we have more people into online business, the best time to talk about Domiciliary account opening is now. Because in one way or the other, you will always want to transact business that involves foreign currency.

I do receive foreign currency from my clients abroad, but not into my Naira account. If you have been receiving foreign currency into your Naira account, then you are being cheated because bank rate is not the same as black market rate.
What is Domiciliary Account?
Domiciliary account is a bank account in Nigeria that is operated in foreign currency. The account allows you save money in US Dollars, Pounds Sterling or Euro with your money valued at the prevailing exchange rate. This account is funded through bank deposits, traveller’s cheques, cash inflows and lodgement of foreign currency cheques.

Note that you cannot transfer money from a naira account to a dollar account. But you can easily transfer money from DOM account to another DOM account

So if you are a serious online business entrepreneur, and you don’t have a DOM account, then you should consider opening one for yourself. This is why I don’t too border about PayPal not receiving money because I use my DOM account to receive money from online stores abroad.

>>You can decide to take all the forms home , fill them properly and return back with them to submit

>>Within 48-72hours, you will receive an SMS indicating that your domiciliary account has been open with your account.

Though Nigerians are restricted to receiving funds on the account but it's better and still meaningful since Payment Of Goods And Services are still enabled.

Under The Country Tab, Select Nigeria as your country.
Fill all the Empty Boxes With Your Correct Details. Note: Use a valid email When Registering.
Your Account Type should be chosen as Individual.
Read and accept their Terms and Condition and Click the Create Account button.
On The Next Page, You will be Prompted to enter your card details. {i.e Your Card Number, Expiry date, and the 3 digits number at the back of the card}.
Your Billing address Must Correspond With The address you used to open your bank account.
Click On The Continue Button to proceed to your account where you will be asked to Verify your email Address using the Verification link sent to your mail.
Sign-in to your email account, you will see a Message sent to you from PayPal, Click on the Message To Open The Content Then Click The Verification link to verify your email.
You will be Redirected to PayPal, where you will be Prompted to enter your password to Sign in to your PayPal account.
A new page will show telling you to verify your card Details.
PayPal will charge the card $1.95 to confirm that the card is yours. Note: The Deducted Money will Be Refunded within 24 hours.
You will receive a debit alert from your bank and you will see 4-digits code with the PayPal Tag Informing you about the $1.95 charge. Note: The Code Is In This Format PP*0000CODE, where 0000 is the 4-digits code.
Return to your PayPal again and click on Confirm my Card then enter the 4-digits code you received Then click The "Confirm Card"
You Will Get A Congratulation message If Your Account Has Been Verified. Note: Your PayPal Account status should be verified.

This has really been a thorn on the flesh for people who que up in line waiting to be registered.

To most urgly part of it is the sight of old men and women who will come and stand on line from morning to evening and sometimes, after the whole suffering, their SIM card won't still be registered by the people doing the registration. In some registration centers, people even fight each other in the course of dragging lines. But mtn is not going back on this SIM registration exercise especially after been fine of more than one trillion Naira in Nigeria and also another huge amount of money in Cameron.

So what is the way forward? What if you can't stand for a long time on the lone line?
