Whatsapp, one of the most widely used messengers to send and receive
text messages and multimedia messages. The only worry among the users is
to hide messages especially images and videos. The want privacy for
their sensitive media messages, because the Whatsapp media can be viewed
by anyone in the gallery. They don’t want them to be explicit when
someone checks out their phone. Here is a simple guide to hid Whatsapp
photos and videos from gallery. You don’t need root access or some other
special skills to do this. All you need is a file manager like ES File
explorer or Astro File manager or some other apps.
I prefer to use ES File Explorer. So the guide will be based on this app
Install ES File Explorer from Google Play store
Browse to the Whatsapp folder in internal memory (SD Card0/ Whatsapp/media)
You’ll see folders like Whatsapp video, Whatsapp images Whatsapp audio and more
Open Whatsapp Images folder
Create a file ‘.nomedia’ without quotes (click on the ‘+ menu’ below and select file)
Now all the Whatsapp photos will be hidden from your gallery
If you want to hide Whatsapp videos, open the ‘Whatsapp videos’ folder and repeat the same
If you still see the Whatsapp media messages in the gallery. Clear
cache for gallery app (Settings>storage>Apps>gallery)
If you want to see the media messages again back in the gallery simply do this
Open the relevant folder (i.e. SD Card0/Whatsapp/media/Whatsapp images or Whatsapp videos)
Tap on the three horizontal lines on the left top to access fast menu
Click ‘Tools’. Turn on ‘Show hidden files’. The ‘.nomedia’ file will show up
Just long press the file and delete it
